Simon Roberts - We English

An exhibition of photographs taken by Simon Roberts during his journey through England with his family from Aug 2007 to September 2008
Simon Roberts travelled the length and breadth of England, documenting people at play, relaxing and revelling.
It too can be found at the National Media Museum.
Roberts' journey has been influenced by a long and rich tradition of landscape and social photography
I like the way all the images are so different, yet i believe they are all true to England and what it is to do English things and activities. The images vary in size and i LOVED this blog . Some were huge, something this blog cannot convey. A reason why it is important to see art in real life.
Beal (2001) agrees saying
"Museum trips can be a wonderful learning experience for children. It is important that they see real work whenever possible - work that artists have actually made as opposed to only looking at reproductions" (Beal,2001, p207)

Cox and Watts (2007) also stress the value visits,
"Art galleries and museums provide spaces of study and contemplation, preserve cultural memory or provoke debate about the nature of art, beauty, identity, culture and society" (Cox and Watts, 2007, p3)
